I loved Metroland. When the Metro Centre finally got rid of it (mistakes were made) I made sure I went back for one last look around and to take some pictures. I wish I’d had a better camera but I suppose these are better than nothing. I still have several MetroLand tokens (coins) in a box of random foreign coins somewhere in the spare bedroom. I loved the 90’s aspect of the place like the seedy arcade off to one side where all the chavs liked to hang out and muscle you for your sweets money…
…that never happened to me.
Those things that used to gob water at each other
I suppose this is a sort of take on Jurassic Park
A shot of the roller coaster corkscrew track
Looking towards the open plan arcade area:
This was the soft play area for smaller children, it really was something special when you were a child, not just on one level and you could easily escape the clutches of your parents by running off again, I loved this bit.
I mean just look at that!
Rachael playing on an Arcade:
I used to spend hours driving these cool little trucks around:
This (to me) is what made Metroland a cool place:
See that space above there? It’s a nook, and Metroland had many of these. It had endless walkways and little crannies that you could go and hide out in and watch the world go by.
I loved that particular aspect of the place, sort of like a holding pen for free range children while your parents lamented on how the metro centre had “nothing there”… What did they know.
