Scratch built 4×4 MAN KAT using the 1985 Jan de Rooy Paris Dakar truck “The Bull” colour scheme (around 1:10). Made with plasti-card on a reinforced box section frame this model sits on a ladder chassis with locked Axial SCX-10 axles and high clearance link control arms. It is currently operated with a simple FM radio and Viper Eco 20 waterproof ESC which drive a 35t drift motor.
I still have a lot of things to finish…
I have a Futaba T6EX to replace the FM unit with, I’m thinking about installing an LED lighting system (although it would require retro-fitting led bevels to the shell…), the cabin needs it’s dash fitted, varnished, the clear windows fitted and the main battery secured in the rear tub more effectively than it currently is.
I’m quite pleased with the model at the moment but I need to get more decals so I can stick them on and then seal them all onto the shell with some varnish before I fit the cabin windows.
This is the first scratch build I’ve completed to a standard that I’d be happy to run on trails without fear of it falling apart. Every corner and join is double strong and I don’t worry about flipping it onto its roof and working on the running gear. The shell has a bias of weight to the front but when mounted to the chassis the COG moves to being low and central and it evens things out.
I hope you like it so far!
